U. S. .. Rep Bart Gordon of Tennessee announced today that it did not attempt to re-election to Congress, a decision that will bring new leadership at the top of the U.S. House Science and Technology Committee following elections in 2010.

Departure veteran legislator was the last in a series of Democratic retirements and comes before a potentially tough elections, as the central office showed Tennessee Republican. Gordon mentioned his daughter, wife and mother as the main reason for its decision.

"We made the sacrifice to let me do what I love by serving in Congress, and now it's my turn," said Gordon in a statement.

Gordon was appointed Chairman of the House Science Committee in 2007 and his retirement will certainly trigger a power play in his place. The winner will play a key role in major political agency NASA retires the shuttle and decide on a replacement vehicle.

The key is what to do in the constellation, the current program to use the NASA Ares rocket and Orion capsule designed to return U.S. astronauts to the moon. Technical and financial problems, and therefore it is unlikely that NASA will meet its target month shoot in 2020, however, and the White House is currently evaluating whether to repeal or significantly change the program.

Gordon is a vocal supporter of the constellation, notes that in September of President Barack Obama should reconsider whether the change in the program spent more than 8 billion U.S. dollars over four years.

"I think that good public policy argument to set the bar pretty high against making major changes in direction at this point is, there must be compelling reasons to scrap what we have invested time and money over the last four years," he said.
