Fischer visits Google, has lunch with Rice in California

Silicon Valley/Stanford, USA, Feb 17 (CTK) - Czech PM Jan Fischer visited the U.S. IT centre Silicon Valley, including Google's headquarters, and had lunch with former U.S. secretary of state Condoleezza Rice at the Stanford university at the beginning of his two-day visit to California on Tuesday, he told CTK.

"It may be two- to three-year stays so that they [students] can thoroughly experience the practice of staying in such a company and are able to use it on the IT market in our country," Fischer said.

He said he met with a positive reaction of Google representatives, who said Google is ready to consider such cooperation as well as Czech scientists' participation in Google's selected projects.

Fischer said he had a brief conversation with British Prince Andrew, who, too, was visiting the Google headquarters on Tuesday.

This is an opportunity for the Czech Republic to be connected to the "inflow of state-of-the-art technologies," Fischer said.

He said he discussed mainly foreign policy, including the situation in Iran and the Middle East, with Rice and other representatives of the Stanford University during their joint lunch.

Fischer, who heads the Czech caretaker cabinet of unaffiliated experts, arrived in California from Vancouver, Canada, where he attended the ceremonial opening of the Olympic Games.
