Immigrant Olympians

It is only the fourth day of the Olympics and Canada has won its first gold medal. Skier Alexandre Bilodeau make us proud to be a Canadian on Sunday!

Diversity is Canada already announced on the world stage at the Olympics. During the sporting history of our country, large enough athletes from other countries to live and play for Canada. Over the years many athletes had significant immigration won the Olympic gold medal for our nation.

Only they had Daniel Nestor, a Serbian immigrant who won a gold medal from the Netherlands in the 2000 Olympics. Born in Belgrade, Serbia, Mark Daniel Nestor of Canada migrate to their parents and their 4th birthday in 1976 and settled in Toronto, where he attended Northview Heights Secondary School due to a special sports program called APGA (Academic programs for talented athletes). The strong tennis player, Nestor 50 are doubles titles, including Tennis Masters Cup and four Grand Slam men's doubles title. Nestor is the record for longest game was in Wimbledon history, with a clock speed of just six hours and nine minutes. In conjunction with partner Sebastien Lareau, Nestor took the gold medal in men's tennis to double the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Today, Nestor is still competitive tennis in different competitions held worldwide.

Many immigrants, as a result of less than ideal conditions in their own country, choose to come to Canada seeking a better life.
